Care & Maintenance
Teak is naturally durable and hard-wearing wood. Look after your All Teak Nurseries Limited furniture and it will reward you with years of service.
How Teak Weathers
Teak requires very little maintenance to withstand the weather. Over time, the sun tends to bleach the wood, resulting in a silver-grey patina. Many owners prefer this to the original colour. However, to slow the bleaching, apply Teak Sealer Oil to the furniture. Teak Oil is not recommended, as it may result in black spots or other blemishes.
After a while, you may see small cracks appearing in the end grain of the timber. This is how wood naturally changes with atmospheric variation. As moisture in the air increases, the timber will return to normal.
You may also see white patterns appearing in the wood. These are caused by natural calcium deposits and won’t affect your furniture’s performance or lifespan.
Cleaning your Teak Furniture
For regular cleaning of your teak furniture, we recommend the use of Wood Cleaner. Wood Reviver can be used to remove patina or heavier dirt.
As with all furniture, you should deal with stains and spillages on the wood as soon as you can. Use kitchen roll to absorb the excess, then wash the surface with soapy water. Use light soapy detergent to deal with any accumulated grime. If you’re left with any marks, a light sanding with very fine sandpaper will deal with these.
Other Maintenance
As the wood in your furniture dries, you may need to tighten the screws. Use a moderate amount of torque with a Torx wrench.
If your furniture has moving parts (e.g. on extending tables and folding chairs), it’s a good idea to open and close the furniture every so often. This will stop them from seizing. Lubricating the runners using a clean dry cloth is also recommended.
